Black Spout Wood is located to the south of Pitlochry. It derives its name from the spectacular Black Spout waterfall. This wood is a popular hiking destination. The entire area is easily accessible by foot from the centre of Pitlochry, and there are many well-marked routes that zigzag through the woods. Feel free to purchase souvenirs in the gift shop to remember your trip. Take a short stroll and marvel at the Soldier’s Leap, which is 18 feet wide. There you can also absorb the breathtaking views along the route. If you continue on the trail, you will reach the southern end of the Pass of Killiecrankie. Watch out for salmon leaping at the falls behind the Soldier’s Leap during wet weather. It’s a pretty fascinating spectacle.
Ben Vrackie
The top of Ben Vrackie rises to an astounding 2,757 feet above sea level and serves as a picturesque backdrop to Pitlochry. It is also well-known and well-loved by all the locals. White quartz used to be dispersed throughout the slopes of Ben Vrackie, which is what gave the peak its name. The name means ‘speckled mountain’ in English. Those that make it to the peak will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Beinn a Ghlo mountain range. Also, the view comprises the Strathtay and Strathtummel regions to their west.
